  1. You probably could go and visit down town but its going to be tight, and traffic in Mexico City is very hectic, so really I´ll suggest you to go to a restaurant in terminal 1 and wait for your plane, there is a typical mexican restaurant just besides the hotel that is with in the airport up the escalator.

  2. There’s 2 expensive restaurants in there, I believe. And a few little shops. Normal airport stuff.

  3. OMG I did the same thing!!!! I live in San Antonio though. Anyways when you get there you will notice all of the little stores there. Just go look around and see if you find anything interesting. Just make sure to keep a very good watchful eye on your things!!!! Good Luck and have fun on your trip!!!! =D

  4. It is a huge, confusing airport with very poor signs…you could use up 2 hours finding your next gate. Really, do NOT leave the airport…and DO keep your hand on your things at all times.

  5. All the above gave the good answers, “stay in the airport” it’s safe.In case you don’t know their are 20 million or so people living in Mexico City and the crime rate is very high! Don’t even go their unless you are accompanied by people that live in Mexico or body guards! Have a nice meal and some good Mexican beers.Stay put untill you get to Vallarta you’ll love it!

  7. As others have said, don’t try to leave the airport. There are some great duty free shops on some of the concourses. Also several decent restaurants, and internet cafe. It is a big airport, you can just wander around and people watch.

  8. Definitely, do NOT leave the airport.

After you find your next gate and double make sure it has not been changed, you can do some simple “stretching” exercises…It may make some people look at you funny, but these do relax you, even if you didn’t have a long flight.

You may also take something along from home that will keep you busy, a sudoku, a good book, word search, etc, things that may come in handy while you relax at the beach as well.

  9. In three hours you won’t find your way out of the airport. So, don’t plan to leave. I’ve been to various airports including Ohare in chicago, which I believe is said to be the largest. But when I visited the Mexico City airport it felt even bigger.

Unlike other airports, the one in Mexico City has a lot of nice shops that sale everything like in any mall. In fact the airport has the appearence of a US mall.

  10. I might not leave the airport either, but if I had even a LITTLE more than 3 hours, I sure would.

There’s Metro subways stops at the airport, and if you don’t have luggage and are comfortable navigating subway systems in major metropolitan areas in other parts of the world, it’ll be a snap. It’s cheap and you can get downtown and see a couple things before dashing back.

There’s also a tour service INSIDE the airport that specializes in taking people with layovers out for a spin around the city. Depending on how long you really have and what you want to see, it might be doable (but 3 hours doesn’t really leave you a lot of “play” time.)

And what is *UP* with those comments about the airport itself?? Mexico City has to be one of the EASIEST airports to navigate of the major capital hubs. I mean REALLY, it’s nothing much more than one big honkin’ LONG corridor. How hard is THAT?! It’s not like freakin’ JFK with 9 different terminal buildings. Sheeesh!

    Have fun!

We had lunch drank some beers and by the time we were done it was time to check in we ate at the far rest. and got a little sun outside before returning to our gate.
