Mexico is actually known as “Estados Unidos Mexicanos” which translates as the United States of Mexico. This means that it is a federal system made up of many member states. Sorry I don’t know more but I hope this helps. Try Google.

The official name of Mexico is “Estados Unidos Mexicanos”. Mexican United States.
Mexico is a Federal Republic. At the federal level, the government is divided in three powers, executive, legislative and judicial.
The republic consists of 32 states and a federal district. Every state and the federal district have some autonomy. They have their own executive, legislative and judical powers.
States have diferente civil and criminal codes, their own policd forces, they have some control on education and health services, and they are responsible for a limited set of taxes (payroll tax, automobile tax).
States are divided in municipalities. Each municipality is in charge of basic city services (such as garbage collection, transit, etc). They also have their own police forces. Municipalities are also responsible for housing taxes.
The Federal District is similar to a state and enjoys a similar level of autonomy. The Federal District is divided in administrative units called Delegations. These are similar to municipalities, but with a less autonomy.
At the federal level:
The executive power is vested upon the president, who also has some legislative powers (through decrees). There are various states secretaries working under the president. They I dont remember all of them but to mention a few: Economy, Energy, Hacienda (public treasure, taxes),Social Development, Health, Education, Army, Navy, etc… The president is also supreme commander of the armed forces. The federal government is in charge of most taxes (ISR = income tax and IVA = sales tax).
The legislative branch consists of the senate (128 seats) and the chamber of representatives (500 seats). The judical branch consists of the Supreme Court, as well as the various federal courts.
