Oh many times the hat is cotton with brim turned down shorts and skinny legs. Yes that was me the first trip. Go to the interior from the border or a good costal town to see and mingle with the locals. Not tourist areas. I would talk to a travel agent. It would be best if you could see how the culture really works and how some people still live. If possible try to see the villages.
