I live in the UK. I would like to take my family on holiday to Mexico in August 2008?

Ybird asked:

I have a budget of £5000 (approx $10000 US Dollar) for accomodation and flight, this if for 3 children and 2 adults.

Beach location preferred.

Can anyone recommend a good location and hotel?

Is this realistic on the budget?

  1. I would recommend Huatulco, Oaxaca. This is a very beautiful beach, great scenery and lots of family activities. You can do anything from snorkeling in one of the bays, rafting, horseback riding to visit coffee plantations.
Since they recently started to promote it as a turistic spot around the world it´s still not as popular as Cancun or Acapulco, and that makes it way cheaper. But this doesnt mean u cant find great accomodation and good food.
Camino Real Zaashila and Barceló are very good quality hotels with an average rate of $200 USD. I did an internship in the first hotel chain but in another location and I actually stayed at Barceló in Huatulco.
About food… you won´t spend as much if u go around town and try the exquisit typical dishes (the state of Oaxaca is famous for its food) as if u stay and dine at your hotel.
Try to get the best deal you can on the flight, because this will be the thing you´ll spend most on, and you´ll be all set.
    Check out some pics
Hope you like my country!! Adios!

  2. Your air fare will be the most expensive aspect of your trip and I am inclined to agree with Aria that Huatulco would be an excellent choice and a world of difference from the U.K (where I was born)
    You will need mucho sunscreen.
Your budget is more than realistic as I spend less and stay in Acapulco for five months every year.
Beware of your travel agent as they dont always search for the most economical package for you.
