  3. You will definitely need a passport, even if you drive into Mexico now. If you drive in you can travel to the border areas but you will need to present a passport as soon as you try to enter greater Mexico (anywhere past about 20 miles in)

  4. Yes, if you are a resident alien (I-151) you do not need a passport. You card is issued by the government and is what you need to enter the US. You need your passport or card if you are entering by air or on a cruise. If you enter on a land border you will not need the extra documentation for a land border until 2008.

    Q. What travel documents and identification is required for a foreign national or green card holder to enter the U.S.?

Foreign nationals that are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. must present a Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”, INS Form I-551), a Reentry Permit (if gone for more than 1 year), or a Returning Resident Visa (if gone for 2 years or more), and their passport to reenter the United States if traveling from outside the Western Hemisphere. If traveling to Canada or Mexico, the Permanent Resident Card is sufficient, although, carrying a passport as well could help facilitate your reentry. (LPRs that are out of the U.S. for more than 180 days are subject to new immigrant inspection procedures as per 8 USC 1101.)

A green card holder CANNOT get a US passport. They are not US citizens. To everyone that keeps telling this individual they need to get a US passport… I certainly hope they do not try… If they do they are subject to prosecution, having their Green Card revoked and deported from the US.

  5. That is a question you will have to check out on the state website. I don’t think a green card will work to re-enter the United States. New rules say that you must have a passport to enter or re-enter the US after January 23, 2007. Go to yahoo and type in passport requirements….it will take you to the state website and you can get any answers that you need there. You can always speed your passport up by paying $60 …… takes 2-3 weeks that way. I would act quickly!!! Total cost would be $67 check to the state….then fees in cash to the court house….$30 here….and $60 to the state to expedite the passport process. I am just not sure how the green card works.

  6. You need a passport. It’s going to take six weeks to get it unless tou do a rush and then it will cost you some big $$$. Contact your local pass port services.

  7. If you are flying, and a US citizen, sorry, but you won’t be able to get back into the US without a passport. Get to work on getting a one ASAP!

If you are not a US citizen, contact your embassy to find out what you will need to return to the US.
