We are planning a trip sometime in the future, possibly stay at the Barcela Maya, on some sites it says 18 and over to go to their on site disco and that they check bracelts, I’m wondering if anyone has been there or in Mexico and if they are really sticky? I have a 16 year old daughter who would like to go and I have no problem with it.

  1. Let me get this straight……………………

Your question involves the drinking age in Mexico ?
You state you have a 16 year old daughter and you have no problem with that…………….

    Mikey’s response is - “WTF” !

Maybe you can bond in a Mexican jail if you don’t have money to bribe the police when caught. That will be special.
    Good parenting through example………….

EDIT : Your missing the point there Alex. Shes wanting to go drinking with her 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I also live here in Acapulco. My eyes do not lie when I’m hanging outside or strolling the Costera near nightclubs. I have seen it ! I have seen it !

  2. Mikey is wrong. You won’t go to “Mexican jail” for drinking when you’re 16. I visited Cancun when I was 16 and every bar I went to served me, nobody asked for ID, nobody cared.

If a bar does ask for her ID, just move on to the next bar because you will find somewhere that doesn’t care about age.

they would give my step-sister liquor when she was 12 , only because she dressed like a slut and acted like wun . so they would give her anythinq . [ this was in Atlixco , Puebla ]

  4. A mother asking if her 16 year old daugher can go to Mexico to drink?!? Good parenting at it’s best!!!

Well, all I can say is yes, they will probably let her drink, but I must add a 16 year old girl in Mexico drinking has the recipe for disaster. They do have a legal age on drinking, even so in Mexico, gee, I wonder why this is? Do you really think a 16 year old girl in a drunken stupor will know how to conduct herself in her own hometown, let alone a strange foreign country.

But again, to answer your question, if you have money you will get drinks. Just don’t come on here asking for advice on how to find your missing daughter in Mexico.

Or better yet, why don’t you call social services and ask them? I’m sure they’ll have the answer for that.
