People are exaggerating. Like the US or any other place, you must know where to travel to. Don't go to Chihuahua for example, or any boarder country, go to Acapulco, Cuernabaca, or one of the nicest places Mexico City. In fact, the most dangerous country in Mexico is Chihuahua, and Detroit is 10 times more dangerous that Chihuahua. Go to Mexico City, Guadalajara, or any of those places. Its great/

I live in Guadalajara now and it is safe enough for travel to be open between US and Mexico, however I would have him just be really cautious. I go to medical school here and class has been canceled - so that has made me slightly nervous. But just have him avoid crowded places if he can, have him wash his hands a lot (etc), and make sure he is aware of how of how his body feels. It is unlikely that he will get it, but if he does, just make sure he goes to a doctor as soon as possible.

You can read this blog for updates:
As of now, the main risk seems to be in Mexico City, but I would still have him air of the side of caution (but no need to be super paranoid). I'm sure it will be fine.

I agree with you. I do not think it is the safiest time to go to Mexico. Cause the Swine Flu is contagious, and i do not think there is a cure, besides taking the flu shot in preparation. But if he is staying in REALLY nice hotel with security that is really good. Then he should be ok/kind of.
