Before I went the first time, my percepction was based on pictures i'd seen and I thought that most of Mexico was desert and cactus. Then I spent three week driving from Mexico City to the Yucatan and back. The pine forest of Oaxaca surprised me. And I was in awe of the ruins of Teotihuacan, Monte Alban, Palenque, Uxmal and Chichen Itza. The food in every state was different bistek veracruzano in Vera Cruz, chicken mole in Oaxaca, puerco pibil in a banana leaf in the Yucatan, puerco pibil in aluminum foil in Oaxaca and nothing like what they serve in Mexican restaurants in the states.
More people should get out and visit other states and not be secluded in their resorts in Cancun.
