Tuks Engineer asked:

Boasting some of the best beaches and surfing in Britain, Newquay is one of Cornwalls premier holiday sites. Unsurprisingly, it has now obtained a reputation for being Englands surfing capital but there’s much more to Newquay than being just a surfers paradise.

Beach lovers will want to head to Fistral Beach - this is in fact the best known surfing beach offering fast, hollow waves for surfers. Another popular beach in Newquay is Watergate Bay although this beach is more suited to beginner surfers. Beginners may also want to try Crantock Beach as it is sheltered. There are numerous places in Newquay to hire surfing equipment and surf schools are also available for those who come only to ride the waves.

Food & Drink In Newquay

As you would expect, Newquay offers a wide variety of cuisine options for just about every pallet. Local specialities include cream teas & Cornish pasties offered by the many tea rooms & bakeries. Cornish ice-cream is also very rich and creamy to taste. Newquay is also well known for it’s seafood and has a huge range of international cuisine restaurants from Indian and Chinese to Mexican and Italian. One things for sure, when your visit to Newquay is over you’ll probably have to start a strict diet!

The Blue Reef Aquarium

If you’re interested in tropical marine life then a visit to the Newquay Blue Reef Aquarium is a must - one of the highlights is a fascinating underwater tunnel that visitors can walk through while witnessing the marine animals swim around in their natural habitats.

Other Things To Do In Newquay

Golf lovers will enjoy the scenic course overlooking Fistral Beach. Aside from the Blue Reef Aquarium, Newquay also has a good zoo containing a wide varierty of animals over 10 acres of land. Other activity based entertainments include pool, snooker, bowling and a range of other sports and activities. Also popular (especially with children) is Newquay Water World - containing a tropical pool, simulation waterfall & volcanos and even state of the art gym facilities for adults. Looking for something a little different? Try the Tunnels Through Time museum (a very novel way of looking at and learning about the past).

Fishing - this is one of the most popular activities in England - at Newquay there are some excellent opportunities for a wide range of fishing from fly-fishing to deep sea fishing.

Close to Newquay is the town of Bodmin - once the capital of Cornwall, it’s now an elegant little market town well worth a visit.

Playa De Las Americas is the largest and most popular resort in Tenerife; situated in the south of the island next to Los Cristianos and near the Renia Sofia Airport. Although suitable for all ages, Playa De Las Americas is mainly favoured by the younger generation for the profusion of night life to be found there and budget hotels. Whatever age you are thought, Playa De Las Americas resort is action packed and packs a punch.

Playa De Las Americas has a large amount of good quality hotels that offer a lively atmosphere and superior service. One such hotel is Caledonia Park. From there you can easily reach the main site of Playa De Las Americas including the bars and restaurants, beaches and the aqua park which provides anyone with a fun day out. The Caledonia Park Hotel offers lots of great facilities, good food, fantastic atmosphere and gargantuan cocktails on demand! It is one of the most popular hotels within the resort.

Playa De Las Americas offers much in the way of cuisine with restaurants offering a variety of dishes such as Chinese, Mexican and English foods and many more, tapas bards offering the very best of what Tenerife has to offer. If you’re a person who is constantly on the go then fast food stalls will help suit your lifestyle. Nightlife in Playa De Las Americas is astounding to say the least, with most places offering a happy hour or two which tends to lead to a few hours of happiness for the customers! Most places stay open till the early hours of the morning and offer the very best of music and entertainment.

There is so much to see and do in Playa De Las Americas that one holiday is normally not enough. There is plenty of shopping, trips around Tenerife, water sports by the bucket load, bungee jumping and even swimming with dolphins to keep you occupied, and that’s not to mention the beaches! Andrew Watkins asked:

A self catering holiday within a hotel environment has to be potentially the best of both worlds. The freedom of self catering, and the facilities of what will normally be an affordable hotel.

The Butterfly Beach Hotel is no exception to this rule, sitting in the Christ Church area of Barbados in a lovely oceanfront location with access to two white sand beaches. With 90+ rooms it isn’t too big so as to be impersonal, although only rated as two star it could be ideal as a decent quality affordable hotel.

The Butterfly Beach Hotel is what might best be called a mixed accommodation hotel with some Superior Rooms but no kitchenette, then the Superior Island View Studio, but with no balcony to sit on, with a kitchenette, called The French Balcony Rooms. Then there is the Superior Island View Studio as above but with a balcony or a terrace. The Superior Oceanview Studio as before, but with Oceanview obviously!

In addition there are one and two bedroom Island view apartments, Two Bedroom Oceanview Apartments, and a Penthouse Apartment, and the cost per room per night starts at about USD100 and rises to about USD300 depending on the time of year. All the rooms are air conditioned, with ceiling fans, and cable TV, and internet access. You will find the rooms are large, kept very clean, and generally offer good value for money, and the oceanview rooms do offer a great view of the sea.

There is a large swimming pool and there are beach towels provided at the front desk. There is a restaurant and beach bar, open all day offering buffet breakfast, a la carte lunch, and dinner, offering a good choice of Caribbean Cuisine and international options. The breakfasts and lunches get a very high satisfaction level from guests, and although the dinner menu is a little limited the quality is good, and the price very reasonable.

For those who prefer to use the Butterfly Beach Hotel for a self catering holiday the town of Oistins is close by where there is the famous fish fry on a Friday, and also eating out in St Lawrence Gap is great fun with good restaurants, and getting on a local bus to and from, is very much part of the fun. They come often, are cheap, almost always crowded but very good natured. Restaurants like Houdinis, and Bellini’s are well worth a visit, and many of the restaurants have lovely views of the bay and the beach. It is also worth going to Pisces, although it isn’t cheap, the food is fantastic, and also the Mexican restaurant Café Sol.

There is no doubt that the Butterfly Beach Hotel is a great place to be for a self catering holiday. The self catering accommodation, whilst perhaps a little dated is clean and comfortable, as long as you remember this isn’t a five star deluxe, is more than adequate. The food is good, the oceanfront position is perfect, as is the ease with which you can access restaurants and bars and entertainment. It is a more than affordable hotel, and will almost certainly give you a great holiday in Barbados.

Karen Waller asked:

It’s no wonder why Cairns is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Australia. With the stunning Great Barrier Reef on its doorstep and the diverse Daintree Rainforest north of the city, Cairns is well worth a visit during your travels Down Under.

The city is located in the state of Queensland and is ideal for a holiday property rental in Australia. There is a good selection of self catering accommodation here, which makes a great base for exploring Cairns and the surrounding area.

Cairns itself offers its visitors plenty to see and do and boasts a wide range of attractions and activities that you can enjoy during your Australian holiday.

If you appreciate culture, be sure to visit Cairns Museum, which houses some interesting displays relating to local history and Aboriginal culture etc. The Shipwreck Museum and the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor Centre are also worth seeing during your stay.

Cairn also has a number of animal attractions, such as Cairns Rainforest Dome, Cairns Tropical Zoo and Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures.

One area of Cairns definitely worth checking out is its Esplanade, which features some great fun and facilities for all the family. There’s an outdoor amphitheatre, a children’s playground, free BBQs you use, as well as picnic areas, a swimming lagoon, Skate Plaza, entertainment, markets, shops, restaurants and more! It’s a great place to meet, unwind and make the most of your holiday in Australia!

But if you’re looking to do more than lazing in the sun or touring the various tourist attractions, you might want to do something more adventurous and sporty. Cairns can offer just that.

Why not check out some of the great sporting activities that are available in this area of Australia? There are so many to choose from, some of which are ideal for those who are looking for a more adventurous holiday. You can go scuba diving or snorkelling at the famous Great Barrier Reef (which is the world’s largest coral reef), skydiving (if you’ve got a head for heights!), sailing, white water rafting, fishing, bungy jumping (if you’ve really got the nerve!), mountain biking and more!

If you fancy doing something less energetic but want to get the thrill of seeing Cairns from the air, you could take a ride on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. It’s an experience you shouldn’t miss while you’re in this area of Australia. Just sit in one of the cabins and view the spectacular views and scenery around you. There are two terminals, Caravonica Terminal (which is only a 15-minute drive from the city of Cairns) and Kuranda Terminal, with two stations in between them.

If time allows, also try to visit the amazing Daintree Rainforest, too which is located north of Cairns. It is World Heritage listed and is a great place to explore. Not surprisingly, it is a popular attraction, too.

During your self catering holiday in Cairns, you will no doubt want to sample some of the delicious cuisine available. The city has some excellent restaurants with a good variety of food on offer, such as Indian, French, Japanese, Mexican and, of course, Australian.

The city of Cairns has so much to offer its visitors. It’s an ideal destination for a holiday property rental, so you can relax and enjoy your vacation in this unique and beautiful area of Australia.
