  1. She might have trouble at the border. She should have a US passport. The Mexican school ID and US birth certificate will not be enough to get her into the USA.

  2. You can’t bring her but she can bring herself. While in theory Mexico might ask her to prove parental permission in reality they probably won’t and the US won’t care as long as she is a citizen, that she has come across the border. She would need parental permission to leave the country but not to enter it.

You have to hurry. She has to have a passport or passport card after July 1. I’m concerned if she doesn’t have a government issued ID, she might run into a problem there as well. I don’t know if they will accept her school ID. They would normally expect at the minimum to have a parent present who can identify her.

Another problem is, when she gets into the US she has no legal parent or guardian. If you get into some type of trouble I’m not sure what will ahppen to her…

  3. If she’s really an American citizen she can go to the US embassy and get finger printed. They will give her the documentation she needs to get through if her prints pass. I don’t think the border will let her through with just that. Too easy to fake.

  4. The official rule is that children ages 18 and under will only be required to present proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate.

U.S. citizens who do not have a single document verifying identity and citizenship, like a passport, must present both an identification and citizenship document; for example, a driver’s license and a copy of a birth certificate or naturalization certificate.

A genuine 17 year old U.S. citizen could use a school ID and a U.S. birthcertificate. Of course, if the inspecting officer has any doubts about her claim to U.S. citizenship, she will have to produce more evidence to support her claim.

  5. if she was born here then she should have a birth record with her. if she is not legal then she will have to fill out the proper paper work.
